How does GM figure out when they need to recall these?

I hope they beef up the window motor. I get the feeling a stock motor would be TOAST by now in one of those haha.
(Is it bad that's the first thing I thought of?)

I dunno, when does Ford figure out its time to finally put the pillow over Lincoln's face?

There's a difference between you not liking the design, and a car that isn't good.
A car company that mismanages itself into the ground and needs to be saved by daddy while making junky, defective, borderline murderous vehicles is just a car company that mismanages itself into the ground and needs to be saved by daddy while making junky, defective, borderline murderous vehicles.

Coty, thank you so much for being another voice that communicates to people that basically, you can think what you want about designs, but they're still good cars.

I'm not even a Ford fanboi or anything. I own two, sure, and I like them, but I also like Volkswagens (which have tons of issues too, that's why I didn't buy a new one last time), and Nissans and Jeeps and whatever else. I just am able to see that everything GM comes out with after like 1975 is garbage.
We have a guy who's crazy about GM vehicles who works here at the dealership. I figured I'd do him a solid and show him this Saturn we have on the lot before we put it on the net. He gets in and goes "Oh, it has 109k miles, GM vehicles with over 100K are about ready to break down."
I think about that every day as I get in my 220k mile Ranger.

I dunno, whenever GM stops building complete shit.
*looks at watch*

we can sit here and compare recall sparking fatalities all day long (because it's not like the Pinto, Bronco II, or Explorer ever had any of those), but at the end of the day, I don't give a shit.
Now kindly fuck off.

Not much of what GM builds anymore would even be close to being considered shit. I'll give you maybe the Equinox, SRX, Spark, and maybe the work vans as being not the greatest, but none of it is shit really.
Now the stuff they made prior to maybe the last 5 years? Yeah, there was a lot of shit in that mix.

You can, in fact, dislike a car without bashing it unnecessarily

doesn't matter how good a car is if all it does is collect dust on a showroom floor

I sell em all day long. I'd own one myself (probably an MKC, personally) and the people who have always had them, love them.
And plenty of young people still see them as a luxury brand worthy of being aspired to. I get plenty of people in their mid to late 20s who want them, and buy them. If you bring your Lincoln in for service, we wash it and give you a Lincoln to go run your errands (or go back to work or do whatever) while you wait. Sure, other luxury brands do that too, but at a different, higher, price point.
Some people just read the front page too much. Be sure to come back next week when we discuss how useless the Focus ST is because you can have German quirkiness (I.E. it won't start in the morning) for the same price, or a car that you can't fit in that is more fun to drive for more, after rebates.

Only because people like you outwardly bash the shit out of Lincoln for absolutely no reason.
Acura's are ugly and boring no one goes out of their way to bash them like Lincoln gets hit.
Infiniti's are as ugly as sin and no one goes out of their way to bash them like Lincoln.
Maybe if people weren't so busy bashing them other people who might consider them would be brave enough to walk into the showroom. They're great cars, not everyone needs a luxury car that pulls good ring times, they just want it to be nice going to and from work. You don't need RWD and a stick for that, not for most luxury buyers anyhow.

Oh don't worry I drive a Mercury as my DD and I wanted the MKZ, couldn't afford it. (Late 20's here). And one of my favorite vehicles right now is the MKT. Sat in it at an auto show and it was the best interior I'd ever been in. Other people can deal with how it looks outside haha.

Have you seen a Tahitian Pearl MKC? I'm man enough to drive one of those with a 2.3L and AWD.

Do you not find it even a little absurd to say everything GM made past 75 is shit?
Seriously, that's retarded. They weren't perfect in the 90s, but Ford wasn't exactly God like either. GM makes some damn fine products right now.

Acuras at least have cool features like 4WS and those incredible jewel eye lights.
Infiniti......okay yeah I forget they exist sometimes.
As to outwardly bashing Lincoln "for no reason" 1) I'm a die hard Cadillac fan with a huge bias. At least I'm honest about it. Deal with it. 2) They don't sell because their branding, marketing, design cues, all suck, which would be fine if they had some cool ass feature to offer, BUT THEY FUCKING DON'T! The reason they don't sell is because that's what happens when you aim most of your line up at competing with the Lexus ES.

Sorry, we're all out of factory armored DeVilles. Perhaps this tank disguised as a rap limo disguised as a Christmas Tree will suffice for the time being?
If not, I'll take it.

Lincolns get bashed around here because Ford has yet to give the brand a stronger identity than "oh look, generic luxury," and it's hard for people to forget the badge used to command ten times the respect it does today. Cadillac has succeeded in reinventing itself because it made an early bet on the Art and Science design language and stuck with it come hell or high water, and the resulting success of the new lineup (recent sales struggles notwithstanding) gives the brand a strong enough modern identity that you (or at least I) don't think about what Cadillac used to be.
Art and Science also gave modern Caddys a distinctive if polarizing look, whereas the the MKZ looks like a fancy Fusion. They have to give it its own design. I fully admit that if the front end was half as beautiful as the rear on that car I'd be waxing poetic about how it's ushering in the future of Lincoln. But it's not there yet.
![]() 02/19/2015 at 10:52 |

The problem is Lexus/Infiniti/Acura SHOULD be their target.
They aren't Cadillac and they know that, notice how they don't have a performance line (i.e. V Series)? They get a small performance bump from their comparable Ford's (in all the "all-new" Lincoln's anyhow).
They want to offer a nice ride, in style. Not a car that can pull track times like the 'Ring. That's why they're launching the Black Label brand of Lincoln, super high end, more about treatment and class than slamming 500 hp into a car. It's just not their thing.
You don't have to like them that's fine. I don't like any overseas brand. And that's fine. I actually really love Cadillacs, but I'm a Big 3 Guy.
And honestly wtf is Chrysler these days? Do they compete against Buick? I know it's not against Cadillac.
![]() 02/19/2015 at 10:59 |
|
So you're praising Caddy for sticking with their design language through "hell or high water" but Lincoln sticks with theirs and they're idiots? Am I following?
So this MKZ:
Looks just like this Fusion?
Man they look pretty different to me.
And also that the MKZ gets a bigger motor than is available in the Fusion. So more performance, but ok.
I think the Lincoln is the polar opposite of "Generic Luxury". The style might not work for everyone, I get that. Call Infiniti they'll tell you all about style that doesn't work for everyone. But you cannot say that 1 their front ends look the same or 2 that it's generic. If anything it's so different of a front end that you're not comfortable with it. And that's fine, you don't have to like the looks of it.
Doesn't change that it's a good car.

actually most of what GM makes today is garbage. That's why they've surpassed three years of sales figures with just last year's recalls. And a company that cares so little about their customers that they refuse to make a recall until the government steps in is a company that I don't need. Also they killed Saturn, Oldsmobile, Saab, Pontiac, and Hummer, so fuck those guys.

lol, I prefer the Smoked Quartz Metallic myself.

I'm with Coty on the Lincoln thing, I'm not with him on most everything after 75 was shit though.

Yes, you can say what you want. That's what's great about the Internet. But show al little respect, please. (Again, not just you. But still)
![]() 02/19/2015 at 11:17 |

It's not garbage. Most of Chevrolets lineup is very good, Buick is decent, Cadillac is hitting it out of the park.
They had some failures in the past, yes. The ignition recall was bad. But they're making strides to improve it. It's not like other makers haven't fucked up in the past.
Whatever, I don't care. I like GMs products. I'll keep buying them. If you don't like them buy something else. Just don't pretend that everything they make is shit, because it isn't
![]() 02/19/2015 at 12:39 |
|
I'm not pretending. It's all the same platforms, with bodies and interiors carelessly slapped together by underpaid Mexicans. The plastics are cheap and flimsy, the electronics are cheap and unreliable, and I'm not just talking about the ignition recall.
![]() 02/19/2015 at 14:48 |
|
Sticking with a design doesn't make it good - Cadillacs look better because there are a lot of straight lines and interesting angles. That's also why the MKZ's rear looks so good! There is no saving the sperm-head front end.
![]() 02/19/2015 at 14:51 |
|
I'm still trying to figure out how the front of it is "generic" and looks like a "fancy fusion"
They both look pretty different and it's anything but generic or ordinary.
